Privacy Policy
What we collect, why we collect it, and the choices you have.

Draft for review. This is a starting template that reflects how LandMate works today. Have it reviewed by a legal professional and complete the [PLACEHOLDER] fields before relying on it publicly.
Who we are
LandMate (“we”, “us”) operates this website to help international students settle in Australia. The entity responsible for your data is LandMate, operating in Australia. For any privacy question or request, contact us at dipeshgoyal44@gmail.com.
Information we collect
We collect only what we need to run the service:
- Account details — when you sign up, our authentication provider (Clerk) stores your name and email address on our behalf.
- Content you submit — community questions and replies, marketplace and flatmate listings, scam reports, feedback, and waitlist sign-ups. Some of this is public by design (e.g. community posts show your display name).
- Usage data — basic, privacy-respecting analytics about which pages and features are used, and limited technical data (such as your IP address) used for security and abuse-prevention (rate limiting).
How we use your information
- To provide the service — your account, your posts, your saved guides and plan.
- To send service emails you'd expect (e.g. a welcome message, reply notifications, and the community digest if you opt in). You can adjust notification preferences in your profile.
- To keep the platform safe — moderating content and preventing spam and abuse.
- To understand and improve how the product is used, in aggregate.
We do not sell your personal information.
Service providers we share data with
We use a small number of trusted processors to operate LandMate. Each only receives the data needed for its function:
- Clerk — authentication and account management.
- Supabase — database hosting for your content and account records.
- Resend — sending transactional and digest emails.
- Vercel — website hosting and aggregate analytics.
- Upstash — rate-limiting to prevent abuse.
These providers operate in the United States and other jurisdictions. Each is bound by standard contractual data protection obligations consistent with Australian Privacy Principle 8 (cross-border disclosure).
Cookies
We use cookies that are strictly necessary for sign-in and security. We also use privacy-preserving analytics (Vercel Analytics) which does not use cookies and does not track individuals across sites. No advertising or third-party tracking cookies are used.
How long we keep it
We keep your information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the service. If you delete your account, we delete or anonymise your personal data within 30 days, except where retention is required by law or for legitimate security purposes (e.g. abuse-prevention logs, which are kept for up to 12 months).
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, or delete your personal information, or to object to certain processing. To make a request, email dipeshgoyal44@gmail.com. You can also delete most content you posted directly from your profile. If you are in Australia, you may also contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) about a privacy concern.
Children
LandMate is intended for students aged 16 and over. We do not knowingly collect data from children under that age. If you believe a child under 16 has provided personal information, please contact us and we will promptly delete it.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. We'll change the “last updated” date above and, for material changes, give you reasonable notice.
