Terms of Service
The agreement between you and LandMate when you use the site.
Last updated: 15 June 2026
Draft for review. This is a starting template that reflects how LandMate works today. Have it reviewed by a legal professional and complete the [PLACEHOLDER] fields before relying on it publicly.
Acceptance
By using LandMate you agree to these terms. If you don't agree, please don't use the service. These terms are between you and LandMate, operating in Australia.
Not professional advice
LandMate provides general, community-sourced guidance to help you settle in Australia. It is not legal, immigration, financial, tax, or medical advice, and it is not a substitute for advice from a qualified professional or official government sources (such as the Department of Home Affairs or the ATO). Always verify anything important — especially about your visa — with an authorised adviser before acting on it.
Your account
You're responsible for keeping your account secure and for activity under it. Provide accurate information, and let us know if you suspect unauthorised use.
Acceptable use
When posting questions, replies, listings, scam reports, or other content, you agree not to:
- post content that is illegal, harmful, hateful, harassing, or misleading;
- post spam, scams, or promotional content without permission;
- impersonate others or misrepresent your affiliation;
- infringe anyone's intellectual property or privacy; or
- attempt to disrupt, abuse, or gain unauthorised access to the service.
We may remove content and suspend accounts that breach these rules.
Your content
You keep ownership of what you post. By posting, you grant us a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to host, display, and distribute that content as part of operating the service. You're responsible for the content you submit and confirm you have the right to share it.
Listings and community content
Marketplace, housing, flatmate, and community posts come from other users. We don't verify them and aren't party to any arrangement you make with another user. Use your judgement, and report anything suspicious — never send money or documents to someone you can't verify.
Disclaimer and limitation of liability
The service is provided “as is” without warranties of any kind. To the extent permitted by the Australian Consumer Law (Schedule 2 of the Competition and Consumer Act 2010 (Cth)), we exclude all implied warranties and limit our liability for consequential or indirect loss. Nothing in these terms excludes, restricts, or modifies any right or remedy, or any guarantee, warranty, or other term or condition, implied or imposed by the Australian Consumer Law that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited.
Termination
You can stop using LandMate at any time. We may suspend or end access if these terms are breached or to protect the service and its users.
Changes
We may update these terms; we'll update the “last updated” date and, for material changes, give reasonable notice. Continued use after changes means you accept them.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of Victoria, Australia, and the courts of Victoria have non-exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute arising from these terms.
